Pave The Way - Supporting Our Charity Partners Only A Pavement Away

We have always had a social conscience at the heart of what we do and in 2019 formalised a relationship with the hospitality based charity Only A Pavement Away (OAPA) to help raise both awareness and funds for the charity.

OAPA was established to help those on the streets, or people who are 'sofa surfing’ find employment in the hospitality industry, by creating an effective conduit between employers and charities which exist to support the homeless, as well as ex-offenders and vulnerable veterans.

Its a year since we first brewed Only A Pale Ale Away (now called Pave The Way) to highlight our support of the charity and help raise some funds and awareness for them. We managed to raise £480 between Sept 2019 and March 2020 through a contribution from our Corporate Social Responsibility budget but then Covid struck. We took some time out towards the end of the first lockdown to look at things and realised we needed to bring the beer into can and change it up a little. So with the help of our friends at Collaborate Global who donated their design time, and the blessing of the charity, we gave the design a facelift that fully encapsulates what the charity are all about and will hopefully help us look to raise our target of £5000 for 2021.

Having the beer in can format and a more mainstream 330ml means we will hopefully be able to gain wider distribution and so get closer to our target. We are proud to be able to support such a great hospitality based charity – especially in these difficult times and hope that the addition of the cans, coupled with the new design, will really help raise the profile for the charity not only amongst the trade, but also consumers and support their campaign #hospitalityagainsthomelessness.

The new design represents a member from the scheme who has a slight superhero stance - empowered by his new job and opportunities at OAPA whilst the tattoo’s represent an element of his former life and is a positive reflection of the work the charity do.
