Second Chance 4.8% Session IPA supporting YMCA Downslink Group

Very exciting week this week!

I have been living back in Brighton for almost 5 years now but it’s been home for 18. Either side of COVID I’ve been trying to find somewhere locally in East or West Sussex to brew for Big Hug. A “home” on the south coast where we can brew locally, support local business and hopefully sell loads of beer locally!

On Wednesday I took a trip over to see Jack at Hand Brew Co and to try our exciting new 4.8% Session IPA - Second Chance.

Having started on a tiny brew kit underneath the Hand in Hand pub in Kemp Town, Jack now has an amazing set up in Worthing and all in all a really good guy. The lads at Cloak and Dagger also brew out of the same site with a couple of tanks of their own plus some other contract brewing Jack does, so it’s a perfect little Sussex brewing hub of likeminded people!

But… the best thing about finding our new “home” on the south coast is that it’s going to allow us to support an amazing youth homelessness charity in Brighton called YMCA Downs Link Group. These guys help to prevent youth homelessness across Sussex and Surrey and every night, they provide accommodation to more than 750 young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Through their youth advice centres, community and school counselling services, family mediation and other youth focussed services, they also provide additional support to 10,000 children, young people and families each year and truly help to transform young lives.

As we do with our original charity partners Only A Pavement Away and our Pave The Way Pale Ale, £5 from each keg of Second Chance will be donated to YMCADLG and 10p from each 440ml can once that hits the shelves.

YMCADLG will be using the funds to support their Youth Advice Centre in Brighton. They have seen a huge increase in the number of young people going there for support over the last 2 years, so additional funding for them is vital. They are also now running a food market there for young people which is great and i can’t wait to meet all involved and see wheee our funds will go.

We’ll be launching the beer this week at BREW//LDN and will have a limited amount of kegs from this first batch before the second brew goes in this week and we get a full keg run out for mid May.

Keep your eye on our socials for where to find it and more info on the charity but you’ll 100% be able to find it in the likes of the Lion & Lobster, The Walrus, Brighton Beach Club and hopefully plenty of Laine pubs in Brighton and London over the summer months.

Cheers,
Matt
