MAY & JUNE 2023

GREENE KING COLLABORATION

We are really proud to announce that we will have a collaboration version of our ‘Pave The Way’ Pale Ale featured in the Greene King May and June 2023 rotational guest cask programme to help raise awareness and funds for our charity partners Only A Pavement Away.

Not only does this mean that it will be available in over 2000 of their own pubs but also their external leased and tenanted sites PLUS their independent free trade customers. In total it will be made available to over 3000 pubs nationwide. But even better than this is the awareness and funds it will help raise for our charity partners Only A Pavement Away.

Greene King have been a staunch supporter of OAPA for several years and are one of their biggest employers when it comes to supporting members on the scheme. We cant explain how excited and honoured we are to have been able to work with and collaborate with one of this countries largest and most well established breweries.

“50% of all sales go directly to Only A Pavement Away”

HOW DRINKING ‘PAVE THE WAY’ HELPS

Every time you purchase a ‘Pave The Way’ Pale Ale you are directly helping Only A Pavement Away use their network of forward thinking employers in the hospitality industry to connect with people facing homelessness, veterans, prison leavers, offering them work placements to learn new skills within the industry and hopefully leading to full time employment. Your money also helps the charity to give people basic stability with somewhere to restart, basic provisions, a phone and other items. This is the lifeline so many people think they can never get, so the work OAPA charity do is incredible.

WHAT IT IS AND WHY WE’RE DOING IT…

Pave The Way is our easy drinking, balanced 4.6% Pale Ale. Our hero product to help support our charity partners Only A Pavement Away (OAPA)

We’ve always had a social conscience as a brand so this isn’t something new for us. In 2015 we started an initiative called Hugs4Snugs to help raise clothing donations for local homeless charities nominated by the venue at our Tap Takeover events.

Fast forward 2 years and In 2017 we saw an article on Sky News about a charity called Only A Pavement Away and their founder Greg Mangham. He had just placed his first member on their scheme into employment and straight away we knew this was a charity that we really believed we could help.

Only A Pavement Away help people facing or experiencing homelessness including those leaving prison and vulnerable veterans, reintegrate back into society via roles within the hospitality sector and in 2019 we formalised a relationship with them.

We’ve created Pave The Way Pale Ale to help raise awareness for the charity and to raise donations for them via the Work For Good scheme. 10p from every can sold goes to the charity and our donation helps OAPA cover the cost of rent, utility bills and other vital living costs. Helping them pave the way to a brighter future.

We don’t believe that anyone should end up homeless and so by doing what we do, we can help OAPA do what they do best.

THE BEER

More traditional in style, sterile filtered and a move away from our usual hop forward, unfiltered beer, we really hope Pave The Way is a beer that everyone can enjoy. A rich, malty base and light copper colour it has smooth notes of honey and caramel from the English Maris Otter malt. These combine with Simcoe hops to give a light and balanced bitterness whilst Eldorado and Amarillo hops offer a subtle flavour of watermelon, peach and stone fruit with a soft sweet finish.

As of the 15th March 2021 you will be able to find Pave The Way in 30 Co-Op Local stores in Sussex along with several other of our beers. As well s this you can find it on tap in a wide range of pubs and bars in London and the South East including 15 of the Portobello Pub Co venues and Pub Love estate

OUR SUPPORT

First brewed into keg in Sept 19, with just 4 months of trading and 2 brews under our belt before Covid hit we donated £480 from sales of Pave The Way in keg to the charity. Amazingly this was then doubled by our Work For Good partners.

Over lockdown we worked with our friends at Collaborate Global who donated their design time to rebrand the original keg lenses and produce a label ready for canning that was reflective of the charity and the great work that they do.

The label design represents a member from the scheme who has a slight superhero stance - empowered by his new job and opportunities within hospitality that OAPA helped facilitate. Not sure what you think but we think the guys have nailed it!

10p per can plus £5 per 30L Keg and 9 Gallon Cask is donated through our Corporate Social Responsibility budget and Work For Good scheme to support OAPA.

In 2021 we are excited about the prospect of being able to strengthen this social cause with the aim of hopefully donating £5000 to the charity so if your a retailer or publican then we’d love to work with you o this cause. If your a consumer then why not grab a pint when your out and about if you see us or grab a 6 pack from the webshop and if your local to Brighton then please grab a can from your local Co-Op and help us make a little bit of a difference.
We also support the team at OAPA by introducing them to people who express an interest in getting involved with the charity and helping organise support venues in Manchester and Brighton for their street campaigns Fill A Flask and Winter Warmth.

Second Chance Session IPA

We are excited to bring you our new partnership with the amazing team at YMCA Downs Link Group. They help to prevent youth homelessness across Sussex and Surrey and every night, they provide accommodation to more than 750 young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Through their youth advice centres, community and school counselling services, family mediation and other youth focussed services, they also provide additional support to 10,000 children, young people and families each year and truly help to transform young lives.

We are also excited that we have a new home for this beer with our good friends at Hand Brew Co in Worthing as it is important to us that Second Chance is brewed locally to our charity operation.

As we do with our original charity partners Only A Pavement Away and our Pave The Way Pale Ale; £5 from each keg of Second Chance will be donated to YMCADLG and 10p from each 440ml cans.

YMCADLG will be using the funds to support their Youth Advice Centre in Brighton. They have seen a huge increase in the number of young people going there for support over the last 2 years, so additional funding for them is vital. They are also now running a food market there for young people which is great and we can’t wait to meet all involved and see where our funds will go.

Keep an eye out here for our latest activity with Second Chance.

Social Conscience

Since we formed in 2014 it was important for us to try and give a little something back - to develop a social cause with the work that we do in selling and creating craft beer and make a difference to our community.

On launching we worked with My Green Squares for 2 years and purchased 1 million Sq Ft of rainforest that would guarantee that areas preservation for 12 months. Unfortunately the company folded in 2016 but since then we have tried to do our bit to help the homeless situation in the UK

In 2019 we formalised a relationship with Only A Pavement Away (OAPA) whose main aim is to help people facing or experiencing homelessness including those leaving prison and vulnerable veterans, reintegrate back into society.

Founded by representatives from the hospitality industry who believe that everyone deserves an opportunity and a chance to forge a career, their aim is to act as a conduit to employment to help those people struggling to get into work, overcome hurdles by finding jobs within the hospitality, pub and restaurant industry.

Our support for the homeless though dates back to 2016. Moving from Brighton to London to set the business up and having not been back to Brighton for 9 months, Matt was blown away by the increased numbers of homeless people on the street in Brighton. We set up an initiative called Hugs4Snugs - a simple concept but fits with our ‘Hobo’ ethos and allows us to try and help homeless people on a local level to whoever we are working with or wherever we are in the country.

A venue nominates a local homeless charity, we give the venue some free beer and anyone that donates an item of clothing, receives a free beer on us. Hugs4Snugs. Simple. If you would be interested in running an event please contact us, we’d love to hear from you.
